Level Cards & Advancement

V2 rule status: Approved foundation; further details pending. Only the following advancement principles have been established so far.

Characters begin with 15 XP at creation, used to purchase Base Attributes starting from 0. Each Attribute level costs XP equal to the level being purchased, with a Base Attribute cap of 6.

See Attributes & Challenges for the full purchase ladder and the universal rule preventing negative final values.

After character creation, Level cards provide further progression. Depending on the card, a Level card can grant:

  • Experience points (XP);
  • Passive buffs;
  • Advanced Class mechanics;
  • Or a combination of those benefits.

The precise content of individual Level cards is not yet defined. These are advancement benefits, not a declaration that every Level card must provide all three.

Level cards are not part of the player’s 30-card Skill deck.

  • A Level card used only to record XP gained is stored under the Player card.
  • A Level card providing passive buffs or advanced Class mechanics is displayed near the Class mechanic card, where the additional abilities can be seen.

See Deck Structure & Card Zones for the Skill deck and the other card types kept outside it.

  • How and when Level cards are earned.
  • How many Level cards a character may have or use.
  • Whether awarded XP follows the same Attribute purchasing rules after creation, or may be spent on other things.
  • Whether passive buffs and advanced Class mechanics are permanent, conditional or otherwise limited.
  • Any further interactions of Level cards with equipment and other progression systems beyond the approved placement rules.

These questions remain open until we explicitly resolve them. No additional procedure should be inferred from this page.
